As this year comes to an end I’m taking some time to look back at the projects I’ve completed in 2016. It has been a busy year for me outside of just furniture makeovers like finishing up a woodworking internship, graduating in March, and going on a fun 3000 mile road trip. I’ve also focused more time on making DIY videos and learning a lot about spraying furniture by experimenting with new products. Today, I’m sharing my top 5 furniture makeovers of 2016. Click the title of each piece to see the full post with more details on the whole transformation as well as before and after photos.
Satin Black Mid Century Nightstands
Back in May I finished up a sweet set of mid century nightstands/end tables. They weren’t anything too great to begin with, but I purposefully drew attention to the leg design by using a stained wood and satin black paint combination. This set is now spectacular after a refinishing job that highlights the original style. I also shared a furniture reveal of the dresser from this matching bedroom set.
Teal Side Table
Picked from a free garage sale pile this mid century-style table got a fresh new look with a custom teal paint color. The paint totally changes the look and was able to disguise the plastic drawer front and faux wood laminate top.
Navy Blue Faux Bamboo Dresser
I have to include this Thomasville faux bamboo dresser that was the first piece I painted using oil-based paint, which you can read about here. It turned out really well in a gorgeous satin finish and the navy blue color paired perfectly with the gold hardware.
High Gloss lacquered Dresser
If you like gloss you have to check out this mid century dresser that I lacquered in a high gloss gray. The color on this piece is one of my favorites – it’s a really warm (almost taupe) gray. And you better believe this will not be the last piece I use this color on 🙂
Orange and Grey Nightstands
Finally, the fifth furniture makeover I have to share is a set of vintage nightstands. I painted them using milk paint in a custom rusty orange shade and paired it with a soft, creamy gray for a color blocked look.
