This piece has been a long time coming. If you follow me on social media (if you don’t already, you should! Instagram and Facebook) you have been seeing before photos, updates along the way and sneak peaks of the finished piece.
I originally wanted to document the whole process of making over this American of Martinsville Bamboo dresser which I started with a video tutorial here, but I just haven’t had the time to keep up with that. There may be more videos of the process at some point, but don’t expect any to show up soon 🙂
I won’t be going into details of the makeover for this post (but I will at a later time). What I will say is this was the first full piece I sprayed with a spray gun and actually got really good results. It took me a while to figure out what the right tools were for me, but I think I have it figured out now. Here is the final piece in all its glossy, vibrant blue glory!

Hi!! I actually have the same piece sitting in my living room right now 🙂 and I want to refurbish it. I have a question tho, did you strip the bamboo drawers? I stripped everything else but wasn't sure if I could prime and paint (white) the drawers without stripping? Would you suggest stripping them down? In afraid of not being able to get all the stripper out of the little holes and grooves? But want the best results obviously! Thank you! And by the way you do absolutely beautiful work! I loved looking at your before and afters 🙂

I did not strip the drawers, for the same reason as you, but also because the drawere on the piece I had were in good condition (no chipping/flaking/peeling finish). The finish on the top of the dresser was really beat up so I did strip it to have a smooth surface to apply primr and paint. Be sure to prime!
