I love antique buffets, and this one is my favorite! I like the size and proportions, and with her new paint job, she is looking mighty fine!
I picked her up off of craigslist with my dad, and after negotiating a lower price, we went to pick her up and I got another $20 off (for no reason other than I asked), so we hit the bakery with the extra cash 😉 She still looked gorgeous before and some people were and are a bit angry I painted her, but it’s always hard to tell from the pictures the real condition of a piece. I really don’t mind though, I love the way she turned out!
She got two coats of milk paint in a custom color I mixed up. I lightly sanded the flat areas to help the paint stick, but most of the piece has that old, crackled, alligator finish, so I did not take time to sand it off since it adds a bit of character. I did add the bonding agent to the first coat of paint to help it adhere though. Once it was dried, the whole piece got sanded with 220 grit sandpaper to smooth it out, distressed, and then sealed it with clear wax. The last thing to do was add hardware, so once again I used the white rose pulls from the green dresser to take pictures. I don’t know what I will end up putting on when I sell her, but for now, I am enjoying the pairing of the rich, taupe paint color and the crisp white knobs.
This is beautiful. It was a gorgeous piece to begin with, but that color and knobs make it exceptional,LOVE!
Love that color! So rich and expensive looking.
Thank you! I really love the color too! It's a great neutral, but it is rich and makes a statement on the piece.
Lovely! And more knob inspiration from you! Thank you! 🙂
Really nice! I have to admit I liked the wood and would have tried to clean that up first, but I am one who paints furniture if there's a hint of ugly. (Know the commerical, "The chair doesn't like ugly?") This turned out beautifully. I hope you kept your gray recipe, because it's got a lot of depth.
Great job.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!

Wow, what a find! Love the driftwood color you created and the pretty white knobs!
Thanks for stopping by!
I'm keeping it to myself, sorry! I do have to say part of the reason it has a certain look to it, is because I used milk paint so there is some variation in the color, which I love! It gives it such a unique look.
Thanks! Other than saying I used milk paint, I am not sharing specifics, but I'm sure you could get a really similar color.
Thanks, Lili! It can be so much fun to mix paints to create the perfect color and shade 🙂
What a gorgeous transformation. I'm so glad you shared this amazing piece with us on Twirl and Take a Bow! ~Tammy
I featured this today on Mod Mix Monday at Mod Vintage Life.

Can you tell me who manufactures that buffet? My grandmother has the exact one, but is missing a drawer and hardware and I want it!!!! Thanks : )
I love the paint….it took it from something Grandma might have to something Joanna Gaines might have! lol
