I finally had the time to paint something again… two things actually! The other will be up tomorrow 🙂 I got some milk paint from The Real Milk Paint Co. and have been saving these pieces until it arrived. This piece I had been saving way longer than that, but I decided it was time to freshen it up. I picked it up last summer from a garage sale and my mom had been using it in the entryway as a little table. It was just wood with a piece of fabric behind the design on the front.
It is an old radio table that had all the speakers and everything removed. I think it has the cutest style, I just wish it was more functional. You can use the top, but can’t keep anything inside unless you wanted to pull it way from the wall to get into the back. My hope is someone will use it as a entryway table to set things or put keys on.
The color is Peacock Blue and I love it so much. The powder looked blue, then I mixed it with water and it turned very dark and very green. Even the first coat was looking green and I was getting scared, but I did another coat and then it became this deep teal. Great color. Here is one coat on it. You can see how green it looked.
I only did two coats of milk paint on the table. I expected some chipping since I did not sand or use a bonding agent and the wood has been finished before, but it did not chip at all. I do like the way the wood still shows through the paint in some spots though. After the paint dried I went over it with 150 grit sand paper to get a smooth finish, then I finished it with SC Johnson Wax.  Flat paints just absorb the wax and seal everything in. Do note that sanding does change the color of the paint (it gets lighter where it has been sanded). I used a piece of neutral wallpaper from a wallpaper sample book (free from Daly’s when they no longer need them) to put behind the design. I just taped it in like the previous backing so if someone want to change it easily they can.
Here it is all finished! I used my brass deer I got last week at goodwill to style this little piece. I am really loving brass things right now. A new favorite. *More/better pictures to come. Check back later*
Anyone else into animal figurines? Especially brass ones? Can’t get enough of them and I am on the lookout for more fun figures I can find at thrift stores.

I have a brass antelope and a brass elephant. They are beautifully tarnished. Brass is back, baby!

After using both brands I think I like the Old Fashioned Milk Paint Co.'s paint better. I found it easier to mix and there were not as many clumps. That being said I think the Real Milk Paint Co. has better colors to choose from. I will definitely use both company's paint again. I just love the texture and finish it gives to pieces. And yes, brass is back!

I usually end up mixing my own colors out of OFMP and I love how they combine. If I need any more red, however, I will have to switch brands. Their red is too dull for me. Very earthy. I will either try Homestead House or Real Milk Paint.
I love the table (even before you painted it), but it really looks so cute blue. What a great finish and those thrift shop deer are too cute. I've always been a brass fan..never really had much silver in my house. I'm so happy to see it making a come-back.

I got the same brass deer at a garage sale 2 years ago and have been on the lookout for more brass animals ever since, but with no luck.
I tried the safe paint you blogged about in Bayberry Green and I love the color and the paint. Different to work with, but easy once you get used to it.

I can see it being used as an entry way table. I think it's prettiness more than makes up for its lack of function. Peacock is a very nice colour and really suits it.
