I have another nightstand! This one is mid century… which is one of the styles I absolutely love. Once again it came from my favorite goodwill… the one 2 minutes from our church. We go there all the time! Last Sunday I got this nightstand which I painted a grey-brown color. My mom also got a great cabinet for a steal! I will definitely be showing it on here sometime soon.
This piece is solid (it is a Dixie) and I believe it is made out of walnut. I loved the style, but thought the wood could be broken up a bit with some paint. There were also some scratches on the top that I wanted to cover, but did not want to stain the whole piece, so paint was the better option.
My favorite color on mid century pieces is navy blue. I think it complements the style. I have done another mid century modern nightstand in the same navy. I liked the way that one turned out, so I used the same color on this piece. I was also inspired by the pieces I see on Vintage Ground. Be sure to check out all of the great pieces he does. Good stuff.
I just took out the drawers, taped off the legs and covered them with newspaper, then painted 3 coats of blue. It was as easy as that! Oh, and if you can’t already tell… I love me some vintage fans… and animals. There are no animals in these picture… but there usually are 🙂

Blue is always good, being my favorite color, but this looks amazing. I have to agree the blue added the pop this piece needed.
Wonderful choice. I love the much of the original wood is still showcased by that beautiful blue frame.
I love what you did with this piece–it looks trendy and expensive!
Thanks! I'm glad to hear others like it as well!
I agree, the blue really shows off the wood. I'm glad I chose to not cover it all up!
Thanks for stopping by!
I love this piece, Reeves! I love that you left some of the wood exposed. It was a great choice! Great job!

Thanks Allison!
This piece is so eye catching now! I don't think I would have thought of painting it the way you did~ very creative!

This came out so, so good! I am really in love with the paint and stain combo and love mid century. I found your link at Liz Marie and am now following your blog. (Plus pinning this awesome project!)

Thanks so much Angela! I found the inspiration from someone else (I linked their blog in the post). I like it as a way to split up the wood on mid century pieces without covering it all.
I am glad you are following along and pinning!
Thanks!
Just stopping by to invite you to my link party. I would love it if you would check it out. This nightstand turned out great. I love the two toned look.

Thanks! And I went and linked up 🙂
What!! It's gorgeous!! I would have never thought to add the blue – I love it!
I came over from Roadkill Rescue. I have a china cabinet with those same legs, knobs and walnut wood. I picked it up (well, I didn't pick it up – it was super heavy, man) at a thrift store. Luckily it was in great condition and I didn't have to paint it. I too love the mid-century simple lines.

Popped over from MMM. VERY effective use of wood to paint-love it! That wood was way too beautiful to completely cover up.
