This armoire is my most recent campaign find. Obsessed? Not one bit.
I found it on craigslist, but it was just listed as a wood armoire. It seems that most of the time people don’t know what campaign style furniture is, so you can get it for a great deal! The price was a little steep for me, but I offered half of what they were asking and they accepted my offer. I took my friend who was back from college for Thanksgiving with me just to be safe (thanks Madelyn!). Pairs are the way to go when it comes to craigslist.

When we were looking at the armoire, I looked through all the drawers, and found it was a Dixie Campaigner piece. Name brand. That’s what I’m talking about! I have worked on a couple other campaign pieces (others are waiting to be finished), but none have had a brand stamp. And let me tell you… this thing is HEAVY. It is solid wood and my parents helped move it into the garage. There was no way we were taking it back out to take pictures, so don’t mind the messy garage.
I searched all over the internet to find a campaign armoire or wardrobe, but I have yet to find something similar. Maybe that means it is uncommon? I find pictures campaign dressers in all shapes and sizes, or cabinets, but not a mix of the two. In case you were wondering, the armoire is one piece. The two are not made to come apart. It looks like they are glued and screwed together. I wished they came apart, but there is no way I am going to try, and risk ruining something.
I wanted to do an quick update on this dresser I recently finished. I did end up switching out the hardware with there red pulls that have a decorative covering on the front. They stand out against the paint more that the white and blue pulls.
What do you think of campaign furniture? Are you a fan, or not so much? Also, do you like the red pulls on the 4 drawer dresser, or did you like the blue and white pulls better? I would love to hear your opinion!
That's such a great piece. I can't wait to see what you do with it! And with all my years of thrifting and antiquing, I've never seen a campaign style wardrobe, either. Love it.
Wow, what a unique piece! I think that was quite a lucky find! … And the red knobs are fun!
I think the pulls should be bigger. The last 2 pulls seem to get "lost" on the piece.
I have one of these in my shop in Miami! We used it in a vacation rental home in Key Largo for several years before renting it full-time, needing to empty it out, and bringing the piece to my shop. It IS uncommon because I never saw one before or after buying it…until now! The previous owner painted it an off-white/light vanilla color, so I'm attaching a link to a photo of your armoire's sister 🙂
I stumbled upon your blog while searching for replacement campaign-style drawer pulls. It's missing one of the pulls on the bottom drawer and a customer is interested in the piece, so I'm helping her locate one. Any tips on finding one would be greatly appreciated!
