I am really loving blues right now, and I thought this cabinet would look great with a new color I just got from Sherwin Williams. I almost forgot again to take a before picture, so I snapped some after I had sanded and started painting. The old record/radio cabinet came from a garage sale. Since it looked to be in bad condition, it did not sell during any of the multiple garage sales it was in. My uncle went back and picked the cabinet up after the sale was over since it was close to his house. You can see the top was stained and blotchy. Poor thing.
I gave the cabinet a couple coats of paint, and had planned on glazing it with a dark glaze to get the antiqued/weather/distressed look. I ended up not glazing it because the glaze we have is old and thick, and it was not giving me the look I wanted. I hope to glaze a different record cabinet that I need to paint. So stay tuned for that!
I have been looking for a brush to wax with, but am not willing to spend 40 or more dollars plus shipping to get a specific brush from Annie Sloan or other paint company. I went to Lowe’s with my mom yesterday to look for a similar brush she had seen there, and when we walked in we were asked if we would try out the Lowe’s app (and fill out a survey) for a $20 gift card! Free money? Yes please! All we had to do was to use the app to find an item in the store, then fill out a survey on how the app worked. So easy 🙂 Anyway… back to the brush, I ended up finding a brush there that I thought would work for waxing. It was just under $7, but it was free thanks to the gift card! This is the brush. It is not too big, and is perfect for applying wax. It’s a great alternative.
After the paint dried and cured, I waxed the whole cabinet (with my new brush). I really did not like the old hardware on the doors, so I got some new ones at Hobby Lobby. They have a great variety of drawer pulls, and they were all 50% off this weekend. That was my first time there, and I definitely want to go back!
Here the cabinet is all done up.
Anyone have any tips on glazing? I could use them!
