I have been waiting so long to get my hands on one of these buffets! I finally found one not too far away so I went and picked it up… alone. Not going to lie, I was kind of scared going alone, but it all turned out fine! And hopefully I will be able to get more furniture from these people 🙂 Here is what the buffet looked like after bringing it home.
My original thought was to leave the top wood, re-stain it, and paint the rest. I posted a picture of it on my Facebook page right after I got it home, and some people said I should not paint it, and the whole thing wood. The thing is all of the cool detailed get lost in all the brown. Everything just blends in, and paint can help accent and define the piece. After looking at the buffet some more, I realized I really like the wood on the drawers (the wood grain is so cool). I decided to leave the top, doors and drawers, and start by painting everything else. If it I did not the wood I could always paint it later, but I had to try first. I used a grey color again. It is grey, but it has brown tones so I should probably call it taupe. The color is Porpoise by Sherwin Williams, and I also used it on this nightstand.Â
I love all of the detail on this piece and how the paint draws attention to it.
The right front and the right side were missing a chunk of the decorative molding. I ended up leaving it and just painting right over it. It does not make a huge difference to me.
Right before I started my mom decided she might want to keep this piece and get rid of the buffet she currently has. I still painted it the color I wanted, and if it ends up looking right in the dining room, then it will stay! I did not re-stain the top or the wood fronts, but I hope to do it this summer once the weather warms up. For now we are embracing its worn wood 🙂

Just beautiful! I think you picked just the right balance in not painting too much and still leaving some of the wood, but enough to make all those details you were talking about pop. LOVE the gray and brown together. gorgeous!
