Last September these two chrome chairs came home with my mom from goodwill. She sent me a picture of them, and I loved the x bases on them and thought they could be great… especially because it had the same vibe as the ever so popular mid century barcelona chairs.
The plan all along was to reupholster them in some white or black fabric to make them more modern. The problem is I have no idea how to reupholster. The other day I decided to try and find a match. I always start with ebay since I seem to find everything on there. I found two similar sets, one with 6 chairs and one with 4. Both had price tags of over $1000 and the upholstery was still vintage.
The set of 4 chairs was the exact same to the two I have, just with different fabric. The price tag of $1600 made me realize these chairs are great as-is without having to do any work to them (other than shine the chrome). To me that price seems outrageous and I don’t think that is what they will get for the chairs, but mid century chrome chairs are popular and still bring in a pretty penny. I did learn that these seem to follow the Milo Baughman style, though they are not actually designed by him.
The fabric on the two I have is a light brown with some bronze-ish tones and in great condition! A very neutral color that could work in a lot of spaces. The thing I noticed after pulling them out of the garage is that each seat cushion is turned a different way. I guess someone switched it around at one point! As usual after I find out more about something… I want to keep it. The whole plan was to redo them, then send them on their way to a new home, but I may just have to find a spot for them!

They look pretty sweet to me! Desk chairs? Occasional chairs? Head chairs at a dining table? I could see these a lot of places in a home. Good luck to you finding a spot in your abode.

What a great find! If you don't want to reupholster them, you could use chalk paint to paint them. I have done that to two chairs and they look brand new, and very clean. I used half a quart of paint and got the color I wanted.

What a great find and an even better price!! I can't wait to see what you do with those! They would be easy to recover! Very very nice.

Interesting! I have never heard of using that type of paint on fabric. I may have to check that out!

Thanks! In my mind these seen hard to redo (at least the back rest… don't even know how to get it off). It is probably because I have not clue what I am doing though.

I wish I could find a spot, but it is looking like these may be going to a different home. If I were older and had my own house I would probably be able to find a spot. My parents are already using a bunch of other pieces I want to keep for the future and I don't think they will appreciate any more!
